Shoulder Pain and Car Accidents

Shoulder Pain and Car Accidents

We work with many auto injury cases in in our Woburn office, and a widespread symptom we see in our patients is shoulder pain. Why is shoulder pain such a common condition after a car accident? How can your chiropractor help you recover?

There are at least two ways that you can develop shoulder pain after a car crash: by direct trauma to the shoulder joint or by radiating pain from the neck.

Direct trauma can be caused by hitting your shoulder on a hard surface in the car during the crash, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end impact. With this type of trauma, you'll often be aware of the pain shortly after the crash.

More frequently, Dr. Ellis finds that shoulder or arm pain does not immediately appear after a crash, but starts a few days or weeks after the accident. This type of shoulder discomfort actually starts in the neck. Injured ligaments or muscles in your neck can squeeze nerves in your neck, causing numbness, tingling, or pain in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist.

We've treated both types of shoulder problems in our Woburn office. This treatment involves chiropractic adjustments to restore your spine's natural flexibility and home exercises that strengthen your neck and shoulder.

Dr. Ellis is here in Woburn to help you recover from shoulder pain. We've been helping patients since 2015 and we can probably help you, too. Dr. Ellis will first determine what's causing your pain and then work to restore your body to its natural functioning. Give our office a call today at (781) 460-0939 to make an appointment.
